What would you tell your interviewee to expect before the interview

Your experts expect you to act like a professional. You will need to tell them exactly how the interview will take place.

This is how I deal with it. You will make it clear that you will contact them by phone. You tell them you want them to be on a hard wired phone. You don’t want them talking on the cell phone or wireless. You explain that you need 1 hour for the interview.

You explain that you don’t want any interruptions. Tell them that you will be recording the interview. You comfort them by telling them that it’s just you and me talking. Tell them that you will retain all rights to the audio interview but that after completing the interview they will provide you with a copy for review. Then tell them that once editing is complete, you will publish the interview on your website.

All of this is negotiable. Most people understand that when someone is interviewing you, they are promoting their book they are talking about on their website. It is important that you take control and set the ground rules and standards for the interview.

Take charge and have confidence because you are the boss and they will follow through and do what you say. I called it the attitude. If you’re doing them a favor, you need to have the attitude. You are doing them a favor, you are interviewing them, not the other way around.

It all comes with your confidence. And so, if you don’t have confidence, act as you do, even if you don’t.
